About the Role
Major Accountabilities:
- Provide outstanding negotiation skills through the entire deal making process to secure and secure attractive deals
- Design partnering structures tailored to the profile of each envisioned collaboration, in close collaboration with Head of BD&L Transactions Oncology
- Leverage and continuously strengthen broad industry network to facilitate deal making
- Drive contribution from various key functions to develop robust and comprehensive business cases and derive clear recommendations
- Work closely with the Therapeutic Area Leadership team (Research, Development, Commercial, Strategy Heads) to understand key partnering priorities, drive alignment, and proactively communicate project updates
- Lead Deal Team – Drive BD&L process from due diligence to deal signature, ensuring internal and external coordination, diligently progressing through each step of the partnering process, preparing high quality presentations for various governance boards Proactively monitor the external business environment and maintain a knowledge base of licensing transactions and other companies partnering activities

Role Requirements:
The BD&L Director will be an experienced business development professional able to translate complex terms into Term Sheet and contracts. The candidate has an outstanding track record of successful deal completion in therapeutics, with a strong preference for deals in oncology.
10+ years industry experience required, with at least 5 years in Business Development
- Strong negotiation skills
- Proven track record in successfully closing transactions (deal sheet requested)
- Ability to build long-term relationships with partners
- Proven proficiencies with a wide range of data/information: scientific/clinical, legal/regulatory, business, financial and market analytics
- Strong track record in leveraging and maximizing matrix environment (local-global)
Education (minimum/desirable):
- Bachelor's Degree required (focus in medical, bioscience or business background preferred)
- MBA – will be considered as an asset

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $176,400.00 - $327,600.00 USD per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
